About North Georgia College and State University

North Georgia College & State University

North Georgia College & State University provides an environment of academic excellence in a beautiful mountain setting, about an hour north of Atlanta. For more than 130 years, North Georgia has been helping students become ethical leaders and responsible citizens in a global environment. North Georgia is a coeducational public university emphasizing strong liberal arts, as well as pre-professional, professional and graduate programs.

Located in Dahlonega, Georgia, a small historic town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and enveloped by the Chattahoochee National Forest, North Georgia is an outdoor enthusiast's dream, with endless places for hiking, mountain climbing and whitewater rafting. This area of North Georgia draws many students who enjoy its eclectic art galleries, coffee houses, music ensembles, rich tradition and rigorous academics. Our extraordinary location is unsurpassed in its splendor among the 35 schools in the University System of Georgia and around the globe.

North Georgia’s growing campus covers a total of 745 rolling acres with 69 buildings, including the main campus and nearby parks and national forests. Price Memorial Hall, whose majestic steeple is covered with Dahlonega gold, is a nationally registered historic site that was once a U.S. Mint. The campus is safe, clean, and friendly. Students easily walk to nearby restaurants, shops, banks and churches.

With more than 5,500 students, classes are small and are taught by professional faculty – not graduate assistants. This personalized attention helps our students gain a solid foundation on which to build their lives —an excellent education with practical experiences and leadership opportunities to give them a career advantage. The university offers more than 50 majors to prepare students for nearly any career.

The state’s second-oldest university and the first to admit women, North Georgia offers an exceptional educational value. In America's Best Colleges 2009, U.S. News & World Report ranks North Georgia College & State University in the top 25 in the South among public universities offering undergraduate and master's programs.

North Georgia enrolls students who are high achievers with the potential to be leaders. Have Courage. Gain Wisdom and Integrity. Respect yourself and others. Be Loyal to the mission. Pledge a commitment to Service. Discover Truth. These ideals are characteristics that you will gain as a student at our prestigious university. If you are open to challenges that take you to the next level, North Georgia is the place for you.
